It’s all the rage in the press. IoT, IoT, IoT. All the big companies are claiming IoT. What is IoT? This class will explore some of the IoT technologies that can easily be mastered by the hobbyist, taking an IoT journey that starts with a wifi-enabled microcontroller, weaves a path thru the internet cloud, then returns back to you with a text msg on your mobile phone, and sensor data plots in a web browser. .
You will learn how to:
-
program the popular WiFi-enabled ESP8266 microcontroller using the Python language
-
use an I2C bus to read a sensor
-
connect the microcontroller to a WiFi network
-
send temperature sensor data from the microcontroller to a “cloud” database
-
configure a cloud database service (Adafruit IO) to receive and store your sensor data
-
display stored sensor data in a web-based dashboard (Adafruit IO)
-
receive sensor data alerts on your mobile phone using IFTTT applets
